Brief

The Central Bank of Kuwait is destined to become one of the major landmarks in Kuwait City. It has a site area of approx. 20,000m2 and a built-up area of 90,000m2, with an adjacent parking facility to accommodate 1300 cars. The building incorporates glazing on the north orientation and stone on the south elevation. Although the building is only 40 floors, the total height is 240 meters. One of the main features of the building is an auditorium that cantilevers 25 meters away from the building. The triangular, truncated pyramid tower is intersected by a podium that contains reception and banking halls, conference facilities, dining and banquet rooms, and a museum. The two stone walls of the southern, city-facing tower reduce energy consumption by functioning as a heat sink to absorb the harsh Kuwaiti sun during the day and use the stored heat to keep away the cold at night. An all-glass northern elevation protects the interior from solar gain while providing panoramic views across the Arabian Gulf. At night, the top of the building will glow like a beacon.
